WELCOME TO THE SERENITY OF AKAROA HOUSE

“We just adored our few days in your beautiful “Akaroa House”!!! There it sat - on the hill - majestically overlooking the stunning harbour and township. We immediately felt so comfortable and relaxed in our superb surroundings. The house exudes such a homely feeling and is so beautifully appointed. We enjoyed such a lovely family celebration!!! We loved cooking in the enormous kitchen and dining at your gracious table. Breakfast was taken on the deck outside the kitchen - relaxing in the morning sun. The verandah's enveloped us as we shared cocktails - taking in the wonderful scenery and sunsets.

Alison - thank you again for our glorious few days in Paradise - we look forward to returning to your beautiful home!!!”

Built in 1883 for the then mayor of Akaroa - this gracious “old lady” was fully restored and renovated in 2003. Modern conveniences add a pampering touch to the beauty and craftsmanship of a heritage home. The original Master bedroom has a King bed with a French tub en-suite, opening to a private deck and garden. The upstairs delightful Queen bedroom looks to the harbour and hills, with shower en-suite, and walk in robe. A further three bedrooms, offer six more beds. In total Akaroa House is fully self-contained with five bedrooms, and four fully tiled bathrooms, with underfloor heating. Offering accommodation for couples wanting to enjoy a private house, or for small groups (up to a maximum of ten) enjoying a rendez-vous, or as a venue to prepare for a special event. Often used by bridal parties as a base to prepare for the wedding. Akaroa House is also a great place for small conferences and corporate gatherings (see the facilities page). Great in all seasons. The house is well appointed with seven heatpumps. The verandah around three sides provides shade from summer's heat, and shelter, if it rains.

Location

Akaroa House is an easy scenic 90 minute drive from Christchurch International Airport, or the city - a little longer if you stop for coffee at Little River and admire the Arts and Crafts of the little hamlet. There is also a shuttle from Akaroa - ask us for details. The road is windy up the hill through the farmland of the valley, speckled with sheep and cattle. The views that nature has created are stunning. A stop at the look-out at Hilltop shows the craggy hillsides rolling into the beautiful harbour. Akaroa harbour was formed when the broken walls of a volcano gave into the sea. Full driving instructions and access details provided prior to arrival. See map in the margin for location.
