Directions
At Akaroa, continue through the village. With the fire station on your left go left and start up the hill of Rue Jolie. Carry on up past the school on your left, over the little bridge, and up to the brow of the hill. Slow down–The Garden of Tane will be in front of you–and turn sharp left onto Aylmer's Valley Rd. Akaroa House will be on your left just past William Street and in front of the hospital.

Akaroa House has been a landmark of Banks Peninsula for over a hundred years. It was built originally in 1883 for the seventh mayor of Akaroa, Mr William Tosswill. It provides a blissful mix of comfort and elegance with absolutely breathtaking views of the harbour and hills. The peaceful gardens have been designed by Ben McMaster to complement the house and complete a truly magical setting.

Banks Peninsula offers stunning scenery. On the edge of an ancient volcano and only 85 kilometres from the city of Christchurch, Akaroa is an historic French and British settlement. Every bay is a delight, and the harbour village of Akaroa, with its colonial architecture, craft stores, and cafés, is a lovely place for your next holiday. Relax in the sun at French Bay, or explore one of the neighbouring bays.

The beautiful harbour dominates the landscape and is home to a variety of sea and bird life including the world’s smallest and rarest dolphin, the Hectors Dolphin. Book a cruise out onto the harbour, where scenic tours, fishing, and dolphin and wildlife cruises are available.

There are activities for everyone: swimming with the dolphins, boat hire, and sea kayaking. Or enjoy the quaint village life offering a delightful mix of boutique shopping, craft and art galleries, and exquisite dining experiences. Akaroa delights so many visitors every year, and Akaroa House provides a lovely base to savour such a divine area.
